Chafing dishes are one of the best ways to keep food fresh and warm in buffets, catered events, banquets, barbeques, and other restaurant settings. It's a metal pan, usually with some water inside, seated above a small heat source (called chafing fuel) which we also sell. The purpose of a chafing dish to preserve that heat for up to several hours, preventing foods from getting soggy, cold, or in some cases inedible.
Some have a roll-top design that can stay open when needed, and others have a standard open/closed lid. Similarly, some can hold just one fuel canister and others can hold more. Having these options available gives you more customization based on your needs and preferences.
These dishes get their English name from the French word 'chauffeur,' meaning to heat or warm. It's recommended that you do not cook food in a chafing dish and they are only meant to retain the heat of food products, they do not serve the same purpose as an oven or frying pan!
